Technology

Technology has made a great impact in our lives. We use it in school to store data, files, and to help in research. Although everything has a negative side, like miss using the technology given to us in a non-educating way. Instead of searching for information, students could be on social media such as Facebook or YouTube. Technology has made learning easier on student, instead of wasting time looking for books, all that same information in the books can be found in one place. Also it helps teachers keep track of assignments and have a way of communicating if students need any help. It also includes all the equipment that is used in the class room that helps teach, like using a projector to show the whole class a presentation or taking the bus from and to school.

Technology has also made it into our own homes, it being our pluming or the cables of electricity that run though the walls. It also makes living easier having an oven, washing machine, and refrigerator.

positive and negatives of technology

Technology has become a big part of our society and has become very helpful. It has lead us to develop new medicine and create devises to use at our own convenience. Having developed new medicine has allowed us to help sick or injured people to an extent, and also helping people live longer. We also use the devises created in everyday life, such as cars, computers, and even our own homes. Also there are smaller devises such as our smartphone or watches that we carry around with us at all times. This has made our lives incredibly easier

Of course there are also a negative side to everything and that includes technology. Because we have developed many new forms of technologies that help in our daily lives, we ourselves have become lazy. Many people don't even go outside to play anymore and it is affecting our health. That same technology is also the reason we cause ourselves harm, such as guns, computer monitors damaging our vision, and the pollution that comes out of our cars and factories. Not to mention that the smartphones we carry are a big distraction and can cause accidents, that hurts others or worse. This has also made our lives harder.

quick qritique

Sherry Turkle talks on "connected, but alone" Ted talk video, about how technology is replacing people. Turkle states that people are to focus on their phones and are ignoring the people right in front of them. Throughout the video she brings up many of her points about technology, like when she saw her daughter and her friends staring at their phones, but not paying any attention to each other. Also that our phones give us a sense of security, giving us the illusion that there is always someone listening on social media. She had done a similar talk back in the 90's on the same topic, but with a slightly negative opinion. Now Turkle said that having technology is okay, but only at certain time and places. This way people are not just focused on their phones all the time and talk to others.

Turkle brings up many great points, saying how we don't pay attention to each other. Instead we end up paying attention to our phones that connect us to other people. Most people just don't want to pay attention to others, but they want others paying attention to them. There should be times and places that technology should not be involved. That would be very help full and bring people back to reality.

summary: connected, but alone

Sherry Turkle talks about technology once again after 15 years since her previous TED talk in 1996. She brings up how new generations of people are more attached to their cellphones and computers. In the video she states how we are not focused on the people in front of us, but to our little smart phones, that we carry at all times on us. Sherry also said that we are becoming less social. We focus on talking to others with our cellphones, that we don't know how to have a conversation with other people face to face. Also that having conversations with other people right in front of you is too hard because we can't edit or delete, once we say something its already out there and can't be taken back. She also comments on how no one is listening and that we can make others listen to us on social media. Because of this people are also said to be changing themselves or they are not who they really are. Another thing about technology is that we use it to comfort ourselves with it, like how we post on social media to get others to listen. The truth is that it is all an illusion and we pretend that someone is there actually caring and listening, giving us a fake feel of empathy.

research

What you think "research" is?
Research is looking and gathering information to support your topic. It is the first thing you do when gathering support for your paper. It is where you are building your credit from reliable sources.

What is your experience with research writing in the past?
I have very little to no experience with research papers, there were only maybe one or two papers that I ever have had to write. There were only supposed to be only about three pages max also. I have never had to write any more than what I needed to.

What are you looking forward to, and what are you dreading?
I am looking forward to another great and fun eight weeks. It was a lot of fun and had a good impact on me, it gives me hope that my future English classes can be just as fun. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the two long research papers. Also possibly the presentation at the end of the semester. But what i'm really looking forward is doing things like writing and editing things for this blog.
